[ He hears the motor coming long before he registers that he hears it. That part, of course, comes just as he gets ten pounds of sand thrown at him. His arms go up and he turns, waiting until it's landed to start shouting. ]

Hey, watch it!

[He stops abruptly. And transforms. All in one motion. He didn't expect -- ]

[He's whirling around, expression stunned.]

[He didn't... think he would ever hear that voice again.]

Are you serious?

[ It's when he sees the transformation that Roxas realizes what's going on here... ]

[ When he realizes where he is. ]

[ He spins around a few times, and realizes that yes. Yes, he is home. And then his eyes are lighting up, and he just looks... bewildered. Happy, but bewildered. ]

Sideswipe?

[stabbywheelfeet]

[There's an excited yelp, which is totally manly, by the way, and not at all embarrassing. He all but springs back across the sand, landing on his hands and knees in front of the kid.]

Are you serious! Are you?

I'm hallucinating. I'm totally hallucinating.

[ Oh, Roxas is beaming. He reaches out to touch him, like he has to make sure for both of them that he's really here. ]

You're not hallucinating. [ He's almost laughing as he says it. ]

[Luckily for the both of them, Roxas remains one of the few people he still trusts to let near enough to touch. The silver plating doesn't so much as twitch under that hand.]

Are you sure? Your hair doesn't look nearly duck-backside-y enough.

[ Fuck yeah I still get shoulder rides. ]

It got a little longer. [ He's grinning. ] ... How long was I gone?

[You're damn right. But not now. Now he's got to prod at Roxas' shoulders to make sure this isn't some kind of crazy storm or something.]

[Yep. The kid is real.]

I... You know, it got so boring, I stopped keeping track. [Hahaha that's a fucking lie.] A while.

[ The trust is still there, too; giant robot? Totally allowed to poke and prod at him. ]

It felt like a while. I... got lost. I couldn't find my way back.

Maybe you should have brought a map.

[Poke poke -- it's like a cat batting at their favorite toy. Albeit gently.]

[Roxas is patting his metal fingers when he does this, laughing lightly at them.]

I thought just wanting to come home was enough... But a map would have worked a lot better.

Well, next time, bring one. You'll come back faster.

[Which is when he decides to scoop him up off the sand, and onto one shoulder.]

[He gets his balance like he hasn't spent two years without this. He's a little bigger now, Sideswipe, but not much.]

Yes sir, Sideswipe, sir. [The joking is well-hidden. It's a testament to the impact Sideswipe and Axel's sarcasm had on him.]

[A little bigger won't be much effort for someone more than twice Roxas' height. You're fine, tiny bro.]

Uh huh. Sir. Right. Hey didn't you hear? I can be a she now, too.

[Sideswipe are you serious. Why are you telling him this, that's just weird.]

Wow, really? You can do that?! [It's like everyone forgets that literally anything is possible in this world.]
